About the Practice

Cantrell Counseling is open to individuals, couples (including same-sex partners), families, older adults, adolescents and children. When appropriate, we work collaboratively with referring physicians and health care providers, other therapists, school counselors, teachers and attorneys in order to provide a confidential team of care for each patient.

Our experience working with severely traumatized individuals — survivors of war, sexual assault and domestic violence — enables us to provide high-quality care for even the most challenged individual. We use a variety of techniques in the process of helping the survivors of natural and man-made disasters. We provide a sanctuary from which the stories can be shared. These approaches, among others, include:

  • cognitive behavioral therapy
  • solution-focused therapy
  • relaxation
  • guided imagery

Dr. Cantrell facilitates several support groups for veterans and their families focusing on recovery from trauma, life transitions and coping skills. We work with both male and female veterans, many who were sexually abused while serving on active duty. We also facilitate non-military groups for people surviving trauma and dealing with life transitions.

Dr. Cantrell is a provider for the State of Washington Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) PTSD Program; Vet Center Contract Holder for Skagit, Island and San Juan counties; the Whatcom Alliance for Health Advancement (WAHA); the Washington State Crime Victim's Program; various insurance companies; and, a mental health fee service provider for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, we have contracts with other state, federal and local agencies, providing mental health services.

All services are HIPAA compliant.
